Transaction Limits let you set your own ceilings on how much money can leave your MAKE account. They're off by default; if you haven't set any up, your account works exactly as before.
The three rules
- Limit each transaction: caps a single outgoing payment. A transaction over the limit is declined.
- Limit transaction activity, by amount: caps the total value that can go out within a rolling time window. Breaching it declines the transaction and freezes your account.
- Limit transaction activity, by number of payments: caps how many transactions can go out within a rolling time window. Breaching it declines the transaction and freezes your account.
Setting up your limits
Go to Settings, then Transaction Limits.
Only a user with the Admin role can view and change limits. On a personal account, you're always the Admin, so this doesn't change anything for you. On a business account, other roles (Approver, Preparer, Viewer) can't see or edit this screen.
Any change takes effect from your next transaction. Saving or re-enabling a rolling-window rule restarts that window from zero, so recent activity isn't carried over into the new setting.
Every committed change sends an email to your account's Admins.
Currency
All limits are set and measured in USD, even if you send or receive in other currencies. A payment in another currency is converted at the mid-market rate at the moment it's checked, then compared against your USD limit.
What counts toward a limit
Counted: payments to external accounts, transfers to another MAKE client, payroll runs, and crypto purchases. The full amount leaving your account is what's compared against the limit.
Not counted: moving money between your own currency accounts, MAKE Splits, and any money coming into your account.
What happens when a payment is declined
A payment that breaches a limit is declined immediately, and you're told which limit was hit. A declined payment doesn't count toward your window.
What a freeze means
If a rolling-window limit is breached, your account is frozen: you won't be able to send money until it's lifted. You can still sign in, view your balances, and receive money as normal.
Only MAKE can lift a limit-triggered freeze; you can't unfreeze your own account. Contact help@usemake.com for help.
